We focus on growing heirloom and unique varietals for the satisfaction and delight of our family, friends, and community. We believe that working for the benefit of the land creates invested allies. Our vision is to grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers to thrive! We want to be proud of our offerings.
Mendoza + Dean is a shared love for fresh ingredients, sustainability by all means necessary, and a response to the need for food grown closer to home. Our access to the thriving and established organic farming community of Northern California offered many resources that gave us the boost to get growing – And we’ve combined our 15+ years of experience into our market garden ventures. This is our life long commitment to NON-GMO, Organic, and Local.
Meet the Team
It takes a village to grow food! So we constantly strive to achieve minimal impact and high yields in the day-to-day operations of our plots. Our combined experiences blend sustainable agricultural stewardship and culinary intuition into Mendoza + Dean.
Founder & Post Harvest Manager
Kim Mendoza was hired by Chef Gary Menus to train with the Patina Group in 2007. Within two years she was offered a position as head prep cook for a new restaurant, Palate Food and Wine Merchant owned by renowned Chef Octavio Becerra. Palate’s mission was to support the local farm movement. From this culinary base Kim uses her talents and skills as our resident Post Harvest Goddess.
Founder & Farm Operations Manager
Dovanna Dean developed her knowledge base for agriculture and environmental stewardship in 1998 as a Permaculture Designer, but the seed was planted as a child watching her grandmother raise basil and other kitchen herbs on top of their goldfish tank. In 2012, she completed an aquaponics intensive under the instruction of John Pade, Rebecca Nelson, and James Rakocy, each industry leaders in aquaponics research, education, and development. These days Dovanna serves as our Farming Operations Goddess.
Chief Fetch Officers (CFO)
No market garden is complete without a team of Chief Fetch Officers. Their day to day duties include barking at birds, laying in the sun, and demanding tummy rubs – all proven holistic approaches to employee productivity and well being. Without the consistent support of our CFO’s Mendoza + Dean would be your average garden.
