Hope this answers some questions…
What are micro greens?
Micro greens are seedlings harvested once the first true leaves begin to emerge. For us this is 21/2 to 3 1/2 weeks after planting the seeds. We grow our micro’s anywhere from 1″ to 2 1/2″, it really depends on when we “feel” they are ready for you. After harvesting we wash our micro greens by submerging in filtered water then draining before packaging. We harvest farmers market mornings to give you a shelf life of 5 to 7 days if refrigerated. it’s also suggested you rinse before serving by submerging in a bowl of water then drying on a paper towel and/or straining off excess water before serving.
What are heirloom seeds?
Heirloom seeds are seeds that have been passed on and saved from generation to generation around the world. Heirlooms have a story and are part of our culinary and horticultural heritage. We feel they are our cultural foot prints on earth – and each variety comes with a story (and sometimes a song).
Why NON-GMO seeds?
Genetically Modified Organism or GMO is a plant, animal, microorganism or other organism whose genetic makeup has been modified using recombinant DNA methods (also called gene splicing), gene modification or transgenic technology. This is a relatively new science and creates unstable combinations of plant, animal, bacterial and viral genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods.
We feel that GMO varieties have been insufficiently tested before they are introduced for to the market for our consumption. We also wish to support farming practices that lead to healthy soil that builds diverse habitats for beneficial insects and birds, protects the bees, and creates healthy people.
